It covers all subjects and topics outlined in the comprehensive and holistic standards set by Yoga Alliance USA. Here’s a quick overview for you.
-
Immerse yourself in the physical postures of yoga through our multi-style approach. You will master a wide variety of asanas across Hatha, Ashtanga, and Vinyasa disciplines—including standing poses, seated postures, backbends, twists, and inversions. We focus heavily on correct alignment and teach you how to modify poses safely for practitioners of all experience levels and body types.
-
Discover the profound power of the breath. In these sessions, you will learn and practice essential pranayama techniques, including deep diaphragmatic breathing, alternate nostril breathing (Nadi Shodhana), and active breathwork. We explore how to effectively use pranayama to calm the nervous system, improve physical health, and prepare the mind for deep meditation.
-
Dive into the rich, ancient roots of yoga to understand it as a complete lifestyle, not just a physical workout. We explore the history of yoga, distinct lineages, and key concepts of classical yoga philosophy. You will study foundational principles like Patanjali’s Eight Limbs of Yoga and the Yamas and Niyamas, learning how to integrate these timeless teachings into your modern daily life.
-
Step into the role of a teacher with confidence. This module provides you with the exact tools needed to create and lead a safe, effective, and inspiring yoga class. You will learn the art of intelligent sequencing, how to give clear verbal cues, and how to safely perform hands-on adjustments and alignments to guide your future students effectively.
-
Understand the biomechanics of the human body as it relates to yoga practice. We cover essential physical anatomy—including the skeletal, muscular, and respiratory systems—as well as the energetic body (chakras and nadis). This knowledge is crucial for preventing injuries, understanding contraindications, and teaching safe alignment.
-
Cultivate inner stillness and focus through daily meditation and mantra chanting. You will learn various meditation techniques to quiet the mind and develop a deeper connection to your inner self. Chanting sacred mantras helps to elevate your vibration, clear mental blockages, and create a deeply spiritual atmosphere during your 22-day island retreat.
-
Explore the sister sciences of yoga for ultimate holistic health. You will be introduced to Ayurveda—the ancient Indian system of medicine—and learn how to balance your unique dosha (constitution). Additionally, we practice Shatkarma (yogic purification techniques) such as Jal Neti, to cleanse the body, remove toxins, and prepare your system for advanced breathing and meditation practices.
